The influence of conditioned stimuli on [11C]-(+)-PHNO PET binding in tobacco smokers after a one week abstinence

چکیده

Abstract Stimuli previously paired with drugs of dependence can produce cravings that are associated increased dopamine (DA) levels in limbic and striatal brain areas. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging [ 11 C]-(+)-PHNO allows for a sensitive measurement changes DA levels. The purpose the present study was to investigate levels, measured PET C]-(+)-PHNO, regions interest smokers who had maintained abstinence 7–10 days. Participants (N = 10) underwent two scans on separate days, during which they viewed either smoking-related or neutral images, counterbalanced order. Craving 12-item Tobacco Questionnaire (TCQ) Smoking Urges-Brief (QSU-B). Compared cues, smoking cues did not increase craving. There were no binding cue condition compared most (ventral pallidum, globus pallidus, striatum, associative sensorimotor striatum). However, potential substantia nigra greater smoking-cue condition, indicating decreased synaptic dopamine. is change level occurring midbrain following presentation cues. this preliminary finding would need be validated larger sample.

Presentation of Smoking-Associated Cues Does Not Elicit Dopamine Release after One-Hour Smoking Abstinence: A [11C]-(+)-PHNO PET Study

The presentation of drug-associated cues has been shown to elicit craving and dopamine release in the striatum of drug-dependent individuals. Similarly, exposure to tobacco-associated cues induces craving and increases the propensity to relapse in tobacco- dependent smokers. However, whether exposure to tobacco-associated cues elicits dopamine release in the striatum of smokers remains to be in...

critical period effects in foreign language learning:the influence of maturational state on the acquisition of reading, writing, and grammar in english as a foreign language

since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...

on translation of politeness strategies in dialogues involving female characters in translations and retranslations of novels translated before and after the islamic revolution of iran and their effects on the image of women: a polysystem theory approach

abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...

the influence of the neo-platonic concept of poetic imagination on wordsworth’s poetry

Imaging the D3 receptor in humans in vivo using [11C](+)-PHNO positron emission tomography (PET).

Imaging the dopamine D 3 receptor (D 3 R) in humans in vivo has been hampered by the lack of suitable tools. The D 3 R is pharmacologically similar to the dopamine D 2 receptor (D 2 R), and is located in the same brain areas as the D 2 R, albeit at significantly lower density. The signal obtained from a positron emission tomography (PET) study is proportional to the target density (B avail) and...
